UF GRADUATE RELEASES YOUTH NOVEL WITH UNIVERSAL THEME AND TIMELESS APPEAL, REPRESENTATIVE OF CURRENT UNITED STATES “DOG-CHILD” CULTURAL TREND

Gainesville, FL – Lead Your HumanTM  – October 20, 2007. Have you ever had fear, doubt, embarrassment, or humiliation? Did you ever wonder if you were good enough?  If you have, then you have something in common with Max. Meet Max this fall in Glenn R. Munyan’s self published children’s book for ages 7 to 11, Max, City Dog, as it hits the literary world. This novel, for children and adults alike, is bursting with emotion and witty humor that fills you with chuckles and a boost of confidence. Uniquely written in first person, each child-reader is able to identify deeply with Max and his feelings of awkwardness, humiliation and doubt. This is the story of a naive puppy who feels he doesn’t fit in and later finds strength through the love of his family and realizes that his limitations are largely inside his head.

He’s a funny looking dog with mean sisters who is deceptively sent off to new owners in Boston who are expecting a better looking female dog, not a strange colored Aussie who lacks the “coordination gene.” Patty, Max’s mom-to-be, can’t send him back once she gets bedazzled with his “large soulful eyes full of love.”

In Boston, with his new owner’s, Max lives the life of luxury with frequent grooming,  a fancy collar,  his own room, and the prized seat next to his dad-owner during football games, which happens to be next to the bowl of potato chips too! He attends doggie daycare and meets his best friend, the wise Chow Chow, and a somewhat annoying yet chipper Daschund friend. This lifestyle is indicative of the current trend towards the pampering of and humanizing of dogs in our culture today.

As time goes by, Max learns life in the big city also means big challenges! Join Max in the first phase of his adventures in becoming a self-actualized and courageous dog. In today’s world, parents strive to instill in our children strength and determination to face life’s obstacles, and provide opportunities to build literacy skills at a young age.

The story is inspired from the experiences of Sue, the author’s mother.  She arrived at Logan Airport in Boston to pick-up her new female puppy from Florida only to discover the breeder had intentionally sent a skittish male instead. She accepted the puppy, who came to be known as Max, a loving and devoted companion and friend. Max, City Dog is dedicated to Sue.
